Funding Opportunities

SHRAB grants

The SHRAB receives money from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) to disperse to organizations in Minnesota to support activities such as staff education and projects involving archival collections management and access.  
There are currently no grant funds available.

NHPRC grants

The National Historical Publications & Records Commission (NHPRC), with congressional funding, supports a wide range of projects through numerous grants. More information about eligibility, funding cycles, and specific grants is available at their Grant Program page.

Legacy grants

The Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment (Legacy Amendment) created four funds to support the protection and enhancement of Minnesota’s environment, natural resources, and cultural heritage. Specifically, the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund supports numerous grant programs operated by several cultural institutions.

Through the ACHF, the Minnesota Historical Society administers the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Grants Program. Learn about application specifics, the grant application project, and previously funded projects at Minnesota Historical & Cultural Heritage Grants.

MNHS also operates the Heritage Partnership Program, which aims to develop partnerships and resource-sharing across institutions to build their capacity to preserve and enhance access.

Other funding opportunities

The National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services both offer grants for cultural heritage organizations. The Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office offers grants and tax incentives for the rehabilitation of historic properties.
